MIGRATION MANAGEMENT IN THE BALKANS:
CHALLENGES AND OBSTACLES
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, July 15 – 20, 2019
BSC Summer School on Critical Thinking Migration Management in the Balkans: Challenges and Obstacles offers an international and interdisciplinary approach in dealing with migrations, refugees and human rights. The program provides an emerging platform for emerging ideas, practices and policy options in the field of migration management. Students and practitioners will have the opportunity to learn and interact with experts and peers, and build lasting professional relationships. The innovative concept of this Summer school besides lectures, roundtable discussions, dynamic case studies, workshops, combines practical exercises and study visit to Salakovac migrant camp in Mostar.
Eligibility
Postgraduate students and professionals.
An excellent working knowledge (speaking and writing) of English.
The availability to attend the entire teaching aspect of the programme.
Opportunities for participants
Keynote addresses by leading experts in the field, class discussions, roundtable discussions, workshops with practitioners, field and study visit to migrant camp, and social and cultural activities.
Obligations
30 hours of research, training and instruction.
Awarding
Certificate of attendance from the organizers.
Venue
The Summer school will take place in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia-Hercegovina. In addition to Sarajevo, participants will visit Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar, Blagaj and Počitelj.
HOW TO APPLY?
Please complete and send the application form together with your resume to bsc@ius.edu.ba by 5 July 2019. The results of the selection process will be communicated via E-mail, within 5 working days following receipt of the application.
N.B. 1 Payment deadline: full payment has to be finalized within 2 week following confirmation of acceptance (i.e. candidates should provide BSC with proof of payment via e-mail to bsc@ius.edu.ba by the same date).
N.B. 2 Limited number of waivers are available through Horizon2020 SAGE project “Systemic Action for Gender Equality”. Please fill in and send the application form for tuition fee waivers (local/package 1) to bsc@ius.edu.ba. The IUS SAGE project and the Balkan Studies Center are dedicated to equal opportunities for candidates. Also, applications from all adequately qualified persons are welcome. However, since women are currently insufficiently represented in this specific category of research, applications from this group are particularly welcome.
N.B. 3 Any of the selected packages do not cover additional expenses such as those related to health insurance coverage and VISA.

Package 1: € 180.00
Participation fee, working materials, certificate, 4 lunches, famous roasted lamb meat at Jablanica, guidance services, and field and cultural trip to Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar, Blagaj and Počitelj.
Package 2: € 380.00
6 nights accommodation in a four star hotel between 14th and 20th of July, airport transfer, participation fee, working materials, certificate, 4 lunches, famous roasted lamb meat at Jablanica, guidance services, and field and cultural trip to Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar, Blagaj and Počitelj.
