BSC Launches New Project on Bosnia and Herzegovina's Post-Dayton Evolution

The Balkan Studies Center (BSC) has launched a new project titled “Bosnia and Herzegovina Thirty Years after the Dayton Peace Agreement,” exploring the country's political and social evolution since the Dayton Accords. The initiative, which includes a series of public lectures and the publication of an edited volume, brings together leading researchers and experts to assess the country's progress, challenges, and prospects.

The edited volume “Shifting Paradigms: Three Decades after the Signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement” serves as the cornerstone of the project. Coordinated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Hamza Preljević, the project coordinator and lead editor, the book is a collaborative effort among prominent scholars in the field. Dr. Preljević serves as the Director of the BSC and is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Sciences and International Relations at the Faculty of Business and Administration, International University of Sarajevo. The editorial team also includes Prof. Dr. Muhidin Mulalić, Assist. Prof. Dr. Emir Hadžikadunić, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Krupalija.

“Shifting Paradigms” provides a thorough political and social analysis of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the post-Dayton era, addressing critical issues such as transitional justice, memory, civil society, nationalism, and geopolitics. The volume also explores contemporary topics, including the refugee crisis, threats of secession, the arms race in the Western Balkans, and the roles of NATO and EU integration. It advocates for a shift toward democratization, reconciliation, and regional cooperation, making it a vital resource for policymakers, academics, and practitioners and a repository of lessons learned from Bosnia and Herzegovina's past and future.

The project has received funding support from Dr. Denis Zvizdić, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Hamza Preljević and the project team are actively working to secure additional funding to ensure its successful implementation.
