New BSC Project Tackles Integration Challenges of Foreign Workers in Sarajevo Canton
A new project led by the Balkan Studies Center (BSC) in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of the International University in Sarajevo (IUS) aims to address the growing challenges faced by foreign workers in Sarajevo Canton. The project, titled “Challenges of the integration of foreigners into the working environment and daily life in the Sarajevo Canton with an insight into the positive practices of the European Union,” focuses on the increasing need for skilled labor as Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) experiences a significant workforce outflow. With demand for qualified workers rising, foreign nationals are becoming vital in filling labor gaps, yet they face hurdles in social, legal, and cultural integration.
The research team, led by BSC Director Asst. Prof. Dr. Hamza Preljević, includes Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ena Kazić-Çakar, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mirza Ljubović, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kenan Ademović, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Hana Šarkinović-Köse. Together, they will analyze domestic and EU legal frameworks, study successful integration models, and conduct interviews to identify opportunities and barriers to more efficient integration.
This project is supported by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton through a Public Call for co-financing of scientific research, artistic research and research and development projects from the budget of Sarajevo Canton for 2024.
