Balkan Studies Center was established on 5 December 2014 within the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Why Such a Center?
There is a dire need in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the establishment of a center specializing in various aspects of the Balkans. The country needs experts in the fields of politics, international relations, economics, history and culture of the Balkans. While in many leading countries of the world there are many experts specialized in the Balkans, the Balkan countries themselves either often lack such expertise at an international level or do not or cannot sufficiently benefit from the existing experts in the region. Therefore, it is essential to have such a center in order to bring together the experience and expertise of scholars from the Balkans, orchestrate them for policy recommendations as well as training posterity.
