WBYC 2021 was held

The “Western Balkan Youth Conference: We Share the European Goals and Values” (WBYC 2021) organized by the Balkan Studies Center (BSC) in cooperation with the Student Parliament of International University of Sarajevo (SPIUS) was held on 31 May 2021. Due to the current COVID-19 crises, the WBYC 2021 was held virtually. 

WBYC 2021 was utilizing a combination of live video platforms (using Microsoft Teams) in which active participants had the opportunity to present their oral or poster presentations. The video platforms created dynamic interaction among the peers, virtual networking for attendees, and opportunity to chat with and learn more about various topics.

The Rector of the International University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yildrim opened the conference, expressing the conviction that the Conference would contribute to youth empowerment.

Keynote speakers at WBYC 2021 were: Dr. Martin Mendelski from Bielefeld University, Germany; and Dr. Emir Hadžikadunić, The former Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Iran (2010-2013) and Malaysia (2016-2020).

The voice of students is essential in shaping the future of the Western Balkans. The WBYC has provided important forums for discussion and gave rise to new initiatives. The Balkan Studies Center (BSC) of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) is planning to organize similar youth empowerment activities.

The conference was held in official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina and English.

Coorinators of the WBYC 2021 were: Prof. Dr Muhidin Mulalić and Sen. Assist. Hamza Preljević.
