Seminar held - The Interplay between our Mind and Brain
Another module of lectures at the Balkan Youth School was held by Assist. Prof. Dr. Orkun Aydın from the International University of Sarajevo on 28 March 2021. Professor Aydın is the Department Chair of the Psychology Department and taught a module titled: “The Interplay between our Mind and Brain”.
The seminar was opened with a small survey which assesses the opinions regarding the relationship between mind and brain. Lecture continues with the thorough definition of both mind and brain along with their distinctive and common features. A discussion was held among the participants to decide whether mind can change brain or vice versa. Students were exposed to several brain images based on Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technique and discuss about the potential structural changes in different mental disorders. They elaborate the probable outcomes of popular psychological dilemmas to find out mind’s role in decision making and they take role in different psychological games to discover mindful thinking.

The Balkan Youth School is an educational platform in the humanities, social and religious sciences. The study program is organized through modules, providing basic knowledge of history, human rights, international relations, political theories and issues, socio-political and religious issues, Ottoman history, arts and architecture, genocide studies, leadership and political thought.
The project is being implemented by the Balkan Studies Center of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) and supported by The Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB).
