On 8 May 2021, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mirzana Pašić Kodrić, held a seminar The “Practical Skills for Literary and Cultural Creative Writing”, as a part of the Balkan Youth School. Professor Pašić Kodrić teaches literature at the University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Education (Head of the Department of preschool education) and Spoken Bosnian language at International University of Sarajevo. Her literary work has been translated into different languages such as English, Arabic, Turkish etc.
The “Practical Skills for Literary and Cultural Creative Writing” seminar deals with the issues of creative writing in a constructive way of discussing whether there are „guidelines“ for work in creative writing – learning to write – or is it a purely „artistic process“?
Professor Pašić Kodrić talked about the basic features of creative writing, including the four main types of writing: expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative. During the seminar, the BYS particiapnts were introduced to five most common types of writing styles: narrative writing, analytical writing, expository writing, persuasive writing, argumentative writing. Lastly, professor Pašić Kodrić presented the eight elements of a story: character, setting, plot, conflict, theme, point-of-view, tone and style. These story elements form the backbone of any good novel or short story.
